What types of events will we be training for?

Specific events will vary each season. Most of our programs in San Francisco and Southern Marin will consist of beginner to novice triathlon training, but we also have training programs for road races and bikerides. Please see individual training programs and events for details.

 

Where is the training held and how much time is required to participate?

Training will be held at various locations in Southern Marin and San Francisco.  There there will be three group workouts each week, lasting one to two hours. Our home base is Mill Valley, CA.

 

What if I can’t make it to all of the workouts?

The key to building your fitness will be consistency. That being said, we are committed to building a program that is feasible given our busy lives, so don’t let the fact that you’ll have to miss a few sessions stop you from joining us. Each week you will be provided with the detailed workout plan. If you can’t make it to a workout you’ll have the details you need to make it up on your own.

 

What equipment will I need?

It will depend on the event. You will be provided with a list at the beginning of each program.  We will also provide you with resources and outlets to get the equipment that you’ll need.

 

What are the various distances for triathlons?

The most common triathlon categories are Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman, and Ironman, with distances as follows (give or take a few yards depending on the race):

  • Sprint: With the popularity of Sprint races, the distances vary somewhere within this range: swim 400 – 800 yards, bike 10 -12 miles run 2 – 4 miles. The “standard” is ½-mile swim, 12.5-mile bike, and 3.1mile run.
  • Olympic: Swim .9miles (1.5K), Bike 24.8 miles (40K), Run 6.2 miles (10k)
  • Half Ironman: Swim 1.2 miles, Bike 56 miles, Run 13.1 miles
  • Ironman: Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, Run 26.2 miles
