Group Triathlon Training for Performance Oriented Athletes

This Performance Tri Program is designed for those ready to push their training and performance to a new level.  We’ll take it up a notch from the Beginner Program and start to focus on building ‘racing’ skills and an advanced level of fitness with the goal of peak performance for the target event.  Participants in this program should have previous triathlon experienced and be proficient in all three components of the sport.

Race distance for this group will be Sprint or Olympic, as the athlete chooses. Here are a few key components of the Performance Tri Program:

  • Baseline field testing to determine appropriate training paces in swimming, biking and running.
  • Detailed 12 week training plan, adjusted monthly based on training results/performance.  This plan includes details for group workouts as well as workouts to be completed individually.
  • Advanced skills instruction in all three sports
  • One hour of one-on-one time with a Flower Power Sports coach to focus on a specific skill or training item

Spring Session #1: February 16 – May 5, 2012
Our target Race for this session is the ever popular Wildflower Triathlon Sprint or Olympic Distance Triathlon.  This race is a destination event that every triathlete should experience at least once.  It’s a weekend long triathlon festival and while the race courses are challenging, the atmosphere is pure celebration of the sport.

Marin Evening Group:

  • Tuesday 6:30-7:30pm (Tam or San Rafael HS Track)
  • Thursday 6:30- 7:30pm (Terra Linda Community Cntr Pool)
  • Saturday 8:30 – 10:30am, bike

Spring Session #2: April 3 – June 23, 2012
Our target race for this session is the Silicon Valley International Triathlon in San Jose on June 24th.  This is a flat, fast course with a lake swim.

Marin Morning Group:

  • Tuesday 9-10am, run
  • Thursday 9-10:30am, bike
  • Sunday 11am-noon, swim (Tam HS Pool or Open Water)*

Marin Evening Group:

  • Tuesday 6:30-7:30pm, run (Tam or San Rafael HS Track)
  • Thursday 7-8pm, swim (Terra Linda Community Center Pool)*
  • Saturday 8:30-10:00am, bike

San Francisco Evening Group:

  • Tuesday 6:30-7:30pm, swim (indoor pool, TBD)*
  • Thursday 6:30-7:30pm, run (Kezar track)
  • Saturday 8:30-10:00am, bike

* Participants in the San Francisco or Marin evening group wanting extra help with swimming can sign up for a 4 day a week program and attend the Sunday swim at Tam High school in Mill Valley in addition to their weekday swim.
